Four trainees broke new ground when they were selected to become the first apprentices in a program resulting from collaboration between Petrokon Utama Sdn Bhd and Brunei Shell Petroleum Co. Sdn Bhd. To mark the occasion, a contract signing ceremony was held on 13th August 2020 at Petrokon Utama Headquarters between the two companies.

Signing on behalf of Petrokon Utama was Corporate General Manager, Awg Haji Jamain Bin Haji Mohd Lot and representating Brunei Shell Petroleum was Contract Owner, Dyg Norriainywarti Binti Hujan.

The four apprentices – Ak Yusuf Ali Bin Pg Abbas, Ismah Nur Afifah Binti Idris, Muhammad ‘Azzam Bin Haji Ismail and Nur Amanina Binti Aidiradiman – were also present during the ceremony for their individual contract signing. With this program, the apprentices will undergo on-the-job training and will have opportunities to be exposed to real work experience, working with real projects.

In attendance to witness the signing were Mr Lee Yin En, Technical Director of Petrokon Utama and Mr David Hughes, Asset Engineering Manager of Brunei Shell Petroleum.

The program’s strategic initiative is to minimize the skill gaps among Bruneian’s pool of graduates. Both companies believe this apprenticeship program can help in contributing to the development and growth of locals by grooming Brunei’s next generation of talent
